Location: Logan, UT 

Description: Advanced course in site-scale planning of LTPBR project using Riverscapes Studio. Students will assess current, historic and potential future conditions of riverscape health to prepare for design. One week short course in Logan. Prerequisite Recommendations: Students are recommended to be proficient in GIS.

This fall, four weeklong advanced Low-Tech Process-Based Restoration (LTPBR) courses will be offered for the first time, led by Dr. Joe Wheaton and Utah State University. Designed for professionals in riverscape restoration and river restoration, these courses are eligible for continuing education units, graduate-level university credit, and Level III in the Federal training series.

  2. Advanced LTPBR Design - Oct 6-Oct 9, 2025
  3. Screening & Prioritization of Riverscapes - Oct 27-Oct 30, 2025
  4. Riverscape Monitoring - Nov 10-Nov 13, 2025

Over four-day courses, in-person in Logan, UT, participants will build on existing LTPBR planning, implementation, and monitoring skills. Practitioners will gain the advanced screening, planning, design, and monitoring skills to lead watershed and riverscape scope projects.

  • Advance the skills to plan LTPBR restoration projects
  • Use Riverscapes Studio to prepare a design report and regulatory permit application
  • Learn how to monitor and assess riverscape health
  • Practice advanced geospatial analysis of riverscape network models to screen, filter, contextualize, and prioritize restoration actions

These advanced courses will build on existing LTPBR education and experience, taking a deeper dive into planning, design, and adaptive management. GIS proficiency is required for all four courses. Advanced LTPBR Planning requires completion of Intro to LTPBR Planning. The other three courses require completion of Intro to LTPBR Design. Participants are responsible for ensuring they meet these prerequisites before enrolling.

Courses may be taken individually or as a full series. Each course is eligible for 1.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) or 1 graduate-level university credit.
