Publications

Across our publications, SER works to communicate with the international restoration community about relevant topics at every scale. Our goal is to develop forward thinking materials that advance ecological restoration through partnerships with international entities, authors, our journal, and within our own organization.

Here are some of our publications:

SER Standards, Guidelines, and Principles
In collaboration with global partners, SER produces standards, principles, and guidance for implementing restoration. Standards-based restoration can help increase the effectiveness of restoration projects and programs, delivering greater ecological and human wellbeing outcomes. Standards-based restoration, therefore, also reduces risk and uncertainty for land-owners, regulators, and funders.
SER Documents
We partner with international entities – including the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Global Partnership on Forest Landscape Restoration (GPFLR), Parks Canada, The Nature Conservancy (TNC), and the Forest Ecosystem Restoration Initiative (FERI) – to develop guidance documents on the practice of ecological restoration.
Restoration Ecology
Since 1993, we have published the peer-reviewed journal Restoration Ecology (2020 impact factor 3.4; 55/166 rank for Ecology journals). The journal focuses on the exchange of ideas among the many disciplines involved in the process of restoration and is included as a complimentary benefit to all SER members.

SERNews
SERNews is our quarterly digital magazine to engage our members on issues in the science, practice, and policy of restoration. It features original articles and curated resources focused on a contemporary topic, Society updates, featured articles from Restoration Ecology selected by the Editor-in-Chief, resources, and more.
Bi-Weekly Newsletters
SER’s bi-weekly newsletters Events and Opportunities and Restoration Now highlight upcoming events, news from the world of ecological restoration, opportunities to engage with the restoration field, restoration jobs, resources, and more.
Island Press Ecological Restoration Book Series
Containing 28 titles, the Ecological Restoration book series covers a wide range of topics, from the scientific principles underlying restoration and the philosophical underpinnings of the discipline, to issues and strategies for restoring specific ecosystem types and field-tested solutions for restoration practice.
Partner Journals
In addition to SER’s own journal, Restoration Ecology, we also offer members a discounted subscription to two excellent partner publications. You can subscribe to either or both of these journals when you join the Society or renew your membership.
Practitioner Insider
SER’s triannual newsletter only for CERPs and CERPITs. Issues focus on tools and resources for practitioners, project spotlights, practitioner interviews, and updates about the CERP program.
