Across our publications, SER works to communicate with the international restoration community about relevant topics at every scale. Our goal is to develop forward thinking materials that advance ecological restoration through partnerships with international entities, authors, our journal, and within our own organization.
Here are some of our publications:
International Principles and Standards for the Practice of Ecological Restoration
Updated in 2019, this groundbreaking publication presents a robust framework for restoration projects to achieve their goals, while addressing challenges in effective design and implantation, complex ecosystem dynamics, and trade-offs in land management. Downloaded more than 7,000 times and cited in plans for the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030), the Standards were developed through consultation with the global scientific and conservation communities.
We partner with international entities – including the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Global Partnership on Forest Landscape Restoration (GPFLR), Parks Canada, The Nature Conservancy (TNC), and the Forest Ecosystem Restoration Initiative (FERI) – to develop guidance documents on the practice of ecological restoration.
Restoration EcologySince 1993, we have published the peer-reviewed journal Restoration Ecology (2019 impact factor 2.72; 54/168 rank for Ecology journals). The journal focuses on the exchange of ideas among the many disciplines involved in the process of restoration and is included as a complimentary benefit to all SER members.
SER’s quarterly members digital magazine provides members with contemporary articles on a restoration-relevant topic, and a dynamic update on SER's many activities, programs, and initiatives. The newsletter is also archived online easy, accessible format.
Island Press Ecological Restoration Book Series
Containing 28 titles, the Ecological Restoration book series covers a wide range of topics, from the scientific principles underlying restoration and the philosophical underpinnings of the discipline, to issues and strategies for restoring specific ecosystem types and field-tested solutions for restoration practice.
In addition to SER’s own journal, Restoration Ecology, we also offer members a discounted subscription to two excellent partner publications. You can subscribe to either or both of these journals when you join the Society or renew your membership.
SER’s monthly newsletters highlights news from the world of ecological restoration, newly published articles from our journal Restoration Ecology, events, opportunities to engage with the restoration field, opinion pieces, blog posts and more.
SER’s quarterly newsletter for CERPs and CERPITs from around the world. Issues focus on tools and resources for practitioners, project spotlights, practitioner interviews, and updates about the CERP program.
