Our mission is to advance the science, practice, and policy of ecological restoration to sustain biodiversity, improve resilience in a changing climate, and re-establish an ecologically healthy relationship between nature and culture.
SER actively promotes participatory, knowledge-based approaches to ecological restoration. The Society serves its members, partners, and the field by:
SER members study and practice restoration in almost all ecosystem types – from prairies, savannas, and forests to tidal estuaries, freshwater wetlands, and coral reefs. Our membership includes practitioners, academics, and restoration professionals, including passionate supporters from the corporate sector and public agencies, conservation groups, university research departments, environmental consulting firms as well as those interested in the field of restoration at any level, even if they do not work in the field professionally.
Membership in SER supports this field while also building your expertise. SER creates networking opportunities for people who are addressing issues such as climate change, desertification, land and water degradation, and the associated loss of sustainable livelihoods that accompanies these ecological challenges. Through information-sharing and scientific research members stay current on the latest restoration practices and science. SER also works very actively in the global policy arena to increase support, funding, and regulatory structures for restoration and the growing restoration sector of the global economy.
All SER memberships include a membership in the SER Chapter or Section of your choosing, discounts on Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner program fees, reduced pricing on world conferences, subscriptions to Restoration Ecology journal, SERNews, monthly newsletters, and complimentary webinars led by experts in the restoration field. Membership in SER also supports SER's global restoration advocacy work.
SER embraces the principle that ecological restoration is an engaging and inclusive process that succeeds with full participation of all sectors of society wherever it is implemented across the world. Our membership community includes both restoration professionals and others interested in supporting the field of ecological restoration.
We offer flexible options, including reduced fees for students and emerging professionals, retirees, and those with limited income.
SER is building partnerships with institutions at the forefront of the field through our Business and Organizational Membership program. A group membership offers your colleagues access to SER resources, expands our network, helps broaden the expertise of the restoration community, and helps grow demand for restoration by actively promoting support for and investment in restoration programs and projects.
Group memberships extend all SER benefits to 5-20 staff managed by a single payer. Your organization will also be listed in the Restoration Directory. We offer annual and monthly payment options as well as equity rates for groups with limited revenue.
