SER and its members are addressing issues such as climate change, desertification, land and water degradation, and the associated loss of sustainable livelihoods. With 5,000+ members and partners across more than 110 countries, the Society is committed to providing resources, science and knowledge, professional networking, and strategic advocacy for the field of ecological restoration worldwide.

We offer several individual membership options in order to build an inclusive community for those passionate about ecological restoration in any manner, from professional to private supporter, citizen scientist, volunteer, and intrigued lifelong learner. Memberships run on an annual basis unless otherwise noted. All fees listed in USD. Membership dues and subscription payments are not refundable.

Membership in SER provides you with access to the tools, information, and professional network to support your critically important work. Our standard membership option is for individuals who are restoration professionals, passionate supporters, and lifelong learners. You will absolutely gain more than you give!

Membership for All Initiative

The Society embraces the principle that ecological restoration is an engaging and inclusive process that succeeds with full participation of all sectors of society wherever it is implemented across the world. Membership rates acknowledge that everyone does not have the same ability to pay. To reduce the cost barrier of SER membership for those with limited income, we now offer two additional membership rate options. The Equity and Open Doors rates are for those who could not otherwise afford to become a member of SER and these opportunities are provided on the honor system.

*An Open Doors membership is available to anyone who would like to participate in the SER community, but who is unable to pay. This membership requires a one-time approval before benefits are activated and must be renewed annually similar to all other membership categories. When completing the online membership application, please provide your full name and contact information as requested, and tell us about your interest in membership with the Society. Incomplete applications will not be approved.



For the Society and the field, it’s critically important to nurture the passion and interest of the next generation of restoration ecologists. Next generation restorationists bring innovative ideas and practices, creativity, and passion, which benefits all SER members. This category is geared towards students and those new to their career in ecological restoration (even though it may be a second or third career!)

    **If you are a student enrolled at a university with an active student association (see list), you may eligible to receive full member benefits through your student club. Contact us or your student club leader for the invitation url to create your SER account.
Our retired members are among the most valued members of the Society. You bring a lifetime of experience that others can benefit from through your continued support and involvement in helping the Society make a difference on the world stage. SER welcomes fully and semi-retired individuals from any personal or professional background with a passion for ecological restoration.

To make a bigger impact with the Society please consider becoming a Restorer. A portion of your Restorer-level membership fee helps subsidize Equity and Open Doors memberships for lower-income colleagues, while also supporting SER's global policy work. Restorers receive all of the member benefits offered at the Individual level plus:

As a Lifetime Member, you provide both human investment and financial investment in SER for the long term, and we truly appreciate it!
