SER2021 World Conference

A New Global Trajectory: Catalyzing Change Through the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration

IMPORTANT SER2021 DATES

  • Call for Proposals is now open - Symposia, Workshops, and Training Course submissions will be accepted through November 15 - see details here

The 9th World Conference on Ecological Restoration will focus on innovative and creative approaches to achieving the promise of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. The conference theme - A New Global Trajectory - encourages us to think broadly about the pathways we can take forward, the partnerships that will make this change possible, and the tools we have for success. As SER2021 goes virtual, there has never been a better time to bring together the international ecological restoration community - practitioners, researchers, policy makers, students, investors, artists, passionate supporters, land managers, problem solvers - to begin the process of global change.

A virtual conference will look and feel different, but like every SER World Conference, SER2021 will offer a dynamic, participatory experience. Using a variety of creative and interactive approaches,  participants will have a chance to build partnerships, share knowledge, and learn from others in the field of restoration. In the lead up to SER2021 we will also feature virtual field trips from restoration sites on every continent, making this a truly unique experience to understand emerging techniques and innovative approaches to the practice of restoration.

The conference will be built around six thematic series that encapsulate the opportunities and the challenges of catalyzing global change:

1. Advancing the science and practice of restoration
2. Restoration as a nature-based solution
3. Multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral collaborations
4. Scaling up restoration and adapting to limitations
5. Empowering and engaging local communities
6. Planning, policy, and economics

We have some important re-organizing to do as we close the RE3 partnership and resume planning solely under the SER2021 banner. That said, all previously accepted RE3 proposals and abstracts are still welcome and considered accepted, and all pending submissions will be reviewed.

We will be rolling out more information and important dates as soon as possible.
