The Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) is seeking a Program and Outreach Intern to support SER’s Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner (CERP) program and Restoration Resource Center (RRC). The intern will also assist with general outreach and communications to the Society’s members and followers, including via social media.

SER's Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner (CERP) program is designed to encourage a high professional standard for those who design, implement, oversee, and monitor restoration projects throughout the world. More information at: http://www.ser.org/Certification


SER’s Restoration Resource Center (RRC) is an online clearinghouse for information and tools to support the work of restoration practitioners, researchers, educators, students, and anyone else interested in restoration. The RRC features a database of restoration projects and restoration-related resources from around the world. More information at: https://www.ser-rrc.org/

About the Internship

This 10-week internship provides an opportunity to build your knowledge about ecological restoration practices and trends, strengthen your project management skills, and gain experience developing science communication materials targeted to an international community of restoration practitioners. Tasks will include:

CERP Program Support

  • Coordinate the CERP Ambassador Program including organizing networking events at select conferences.

  • Manage outreach to academic institutions to maintain updated academic listings and to promote CERP program partnering opportunities.

  • Assist with the production of the Practitioner Insider newsletter.

  • Facilitate the CERP/CERPIT online discussion forum

  • Help promote online forum discussions related to ecological restoration.

RRC and Programming Support

  • Work with SER to research and develop new content on the basics of ecological restoration and SER’s International Principles and Standards for the RRC homepage. 

  • Assist in creating a new restoration project submission form for the RRC. 

  • Identify and upload at least 3 new restoration projects to the RRC. 

  • Update the RRC with resources that have been featured in SERNews, CERP Practitioner Insider, webinars, and the journal, Restoration Ecology.

  • Assist in delivering periodic newsletters for our members and contacts.

  • Assist in promoting RRC resources and projects on social media as needed. 


Qualifications/Requirements:

 

  • Current student working towards an undergraduate or graduate degree, preferably in environmental science or a related field

  • Strong communication skills and professional writing ability

  • Ability to work independently

  • Website content management experience a plus

  • Familiarity with ecological restoration a plus

Terms:

  • Internship term:  10 weeks

  • Minimum 20 hours/week, with the opportunity for more

  • Work schedule is flexible

  • June 1st start date is preferred but negotiable

  • Intern will work remotely

  • A small stipend will be provided ($1,500)
