Event title: From Soils to the Arabian Leopard – A Manifesto for Comprehensive Regeneration

Description: RCU is dedicated to the comprehensive regeneration of AlUlas rich ecosystems; working to restore healthy, self-sustaining ecosystems from the soils to the apex predator, the Arabian Leopard. RCU has ambitious goals for ecosystem restoration, meaning a strategic approach is needed. In this event we will detail how our Strategy for Ecosystem Restoration simultaneously integrates both international best practice with vital local knowledge to ensure efforts to restore soil health and habitats are a success. With RCU also planning to achieve Net Zero Carbon emissions, ecosystem restoration will be a key nature based solution to enhance carbon sequestration and climate change resilience. Space for Giants, will detail the research conducted in AlUla to predict current and future carbon sequestration in the Nature Reserves and look at how it may contribute to RCUs net zero goals. The session will also look at RCUs holistic approach to the reintroduction of the Arabian Leopard. This approach includes the captive breeding facility, baseline surveys of regional populations and projects working to prepare local communities for the eventual reintroduction of the Arabian Leopard. Finally, the IUCN will provide an overview of the adaptive Nature Reserve Management Plans that bring together all elements of our comprehensive regeneration.
