This course covers the basics of habitat restoration/ replacement of functions and services for wetland and riparian areas. On the first morning, the classroom session will cover the fundamental elements of site selection, preparation, and installation essential to successful restoration planning.

Field trips during the remainder of the course will center on case studies that illustrate how these elements come together to make a successful restoration project as well as common mistakes. Each participant will receive a copy of Wetland Mitigation: Planning Hydrology, Vegetation, and Soils for Constructed Wetlands as a reference.

Instructor, Larry Sward, has worked as a as a biologist in southern California for more than 30 years. He is a Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner and served as the senior technical specialist at HELIX Environmental Planning where he oversaw field investigations, restoration projects, wetland delineations, vegetation mapping and rare plant studies.
