An updated look at the Foundry Dock Case Study at Cold Spring, New York by designer Stephen Yarabek. The Foundry Dock Shoreline Remediation Project (Completed June 2006) took over seven years to complete due to a lengthy public engagement process that revolved around the nonprofit Scenic Hudson acquiring a privately owned brownfield site that was used for many years by the public for small boat launch and fishing. Public charrettes were held to educate the public about the environmental imperative to remediate the Hudson River Shoreline property while assuring future public access. The Brownfield soil remediation had to balance the need to preserve mature on site trees while removing toxic soils. Recreational amenities were developed alongside creating vastly improved habitat. Continued site monitoring provides a solid case study for shoreline stabilization and habitat improvement techniques.
