2010 Student Research Grants

The Society of Ecological Restoration Northwest has developed a new student grant opportunity.  The purpose of this grant is to support student research intended to improve restoration of natural systems (e.g. forests, wetlands, shrub-steppe) within the Pacific Northwest eco-region (WA, OR, MT, ID, BC, Northern CA). Social or natural science graduate students and upper-level undergraduate students are encouraged to apply. Three grants of up to $1,000 will be awarded. 

Guidelines

  • Preference will be given to applications from student members of SERNW (visit www.ser.org/sernw/default.asp) or a SER student guild.
  • Preference will also be given to research located within the Pacific Northwest but other projects will be considered.
  • Limit proposals to 4 pages (not including cover page, references, CV, and unofficial transcript).

Procedures

Proposals must be submitted by e-mail to Lauren Urgenson before midnight January 15th, 2010 and should include:

1. A cover page including project title, name and address of the student applicant (including e-mail address), study system and location, college or institution, and dollar amount requested.

2. The body of the proposal, including abstract, introduction (with research question(s), and objective(s) including a description of the project’s regional significance), methods, expected results and literature cited.  Any tables or figures should be integrated into the text.

3. Timetable.

4. Budget (including justification) and research partners.

5. A 1-2 page CV.

6. An unofficial university transcript.

Products

Grant recipients must agree to present their research results at a future SERNW conference (held every 1.5 years).  SERNW will waive conference entrance fees for grant recipients.

Recipients are encouraged to become student members of SERNW. Total membership fee is $15.00 ($10 for SERI plus $5 for SERNW) visit www.ser.org/sernw/default.asp to become a member.
