Scientist
Otak, Inc. Location: Kirkland, Vancouver, Yakima, WA. Otak Inc. is a dynamic multi-discipline company with civil engineers, landscape architects, planners, and scientists working with a range of public and private clients delivering high quality, inter-disciplinary solutions to complex problems. We want a dynamic professional scientist with a background in the natural sciences who has a minimum of 5 years of experience in the Pacific Northwest conducting field assessments, working with multidisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers, contributing to proposals and assisting with marketing new work, writing technical documents, assisting with preparing scopes and budgets, creating and maintaining effective client relationships. We want someone who has experience taking projects through the full range of regulatory requirements in Oregon and Washington. Experience with state, local, and Federal regulatory programs is essential, experience working on NEPA related documents is preferred. Discipline of expertise could include wetland ecologist, fisheries biologist, restoration ecologist, stream ecologist, or other related disciplines.
Qualifications: BS in Natural Sciences or related field plus 5 years of experience; or, MS or PhD Natural Sciences or related field with 3 years of consulting or applied science/management experience. Our work tends to focus on aquatic resources (wetlands, streams & rivers, estuaries, near-shore environments), wildlife/habitat, and geomorphic issues. In addition to a very strong technical background you need to have excellent writing skills. Our projects tend to be interdisciplinary; therefore you need strong verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively within a multi-discipline design team, with public and private clients, and with agency staff. Individuals with wetland expertise are expected to be PWS or at least to have submitted their paperwork.

Trails Maintenance Technician
Estacada, OR; Northwest Service Academy; closes June 10, 2010 The trails maintenance technicians will perform needed maintenance on district trails both in wilderness and non-wilderness areas. Maintenance work includes log out with cross-cut saw or chain saw, tread maintenance including drainage structures, slough, slide and berm removal, and brushing. Much of the required work has not been done in several years or has been accomplished by volunteers. More than 50% of the work needed is in newly designated wildernesses, so no mechanical tools are permitted to perform work. Conservation Educator

The Conservation Educator is responsible primarily for coordinating, instructing, and implementing environmental ecology place-based programs with schools throughout the Columbia Gorge. Work within this position includes delivering and enhancing environmental education programs and partnerships; the recruitment, training, and managing of community volunteers; and implementing the Gorge Explorers afterschool and stewardship programs.
