DNR Aquatics Restoration Program

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) would like to introduce the Aquatics Restoration Program.  The goal of the Aquatics Restoration Program is to offer various levels of support to project managers working on restoration projects that take place on or adjacent to state owned aquatic lands (SOAL) located in the state of Washington.  These projects aim to restore, enhance, create or protect favorable biological and ecological conditions of freshwater, saltwater and estuarine aquatic systems.

The type of support given to a particular restoration project is evaluated on a case by case basis.  One level of support the program is able to offer is funding for restoration efforts that take place on or adjacent to SOAL.  While DNR understands and appreciates the efforts and funding required for project design, planning, assessment and permitting, it is our standard practice to provide funding for on-the-ground portions of restoration projects.  Typically this includes on-site project preparation and on-site project implementation of restoration related activities.

Matching funds are required at a 1:1 ratio and the match may come from other cash sources (federal, state, local or otherwise), as well as in-kind services and volunteer hours.  A goal of this funding opportunity is to provide seed money for projects that will leverage additional funds and/or in kind services and as a result increase the total benefit of the restoration project.  Although funds are offered as one level of support, they are limited and funding requests are evaluated as they are submitted.  Typically awarded funds range from $5,000 to $20,000 and are available on a biennium basis.  Our current biennium started in July 1, 2007 and ends June 30, 2009.  If you would like to discuss this program further please review the map by visiting the provided link and contact the appropriate Restoration Land Manager as listed:
