Program
Conference Program and Session Speakers:
We offered four concurrent sessions at the conference to bring together current research and restoration practices that restore, preserve and conserve the native flora and fauna of our region. Of special note, the annual Elwha Research Consortium conference was held in conjunction with this meeting. Overview talks from the various Elwha Project research groups were held on Tuesday (2/16) and in 8 other slots throughout the general meeting.

Six different workshops are scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. See Workshop Section for descriptions. These 3 ½ hour training opportunities will be running concurrently with the regular technical program, and are free. But seating is limited, registration is on a first come basis, and conference participants are restricted to just one workshop during advance registration. Registration for additional workshops will be allowed on a space available basis onsite.
New - Special Focus Session Pervious Concrete Pavements for Stormwater Runoff Mitigation – Design Considerations
When: Tuesday Morning (90 minute session). Advance registration not required
Description: Pervious Concrete Pavements have gained wide acceptance and use for stormwater runoff mitigation throughout the Puget Sound drainages and have been shown to be among the more cost-effective solutions available. This workshop will cover the technical aspects of design, specification and construction of pervious concrete surfaces. Use of these design and construction procedures will enable the designer or developer to meet current stormwater requirements with no or little loss of buildable land area. The discussion will center on fundamentals of engineering design to meet both structural requirements and allow the designer great latitude in meeting stormwater requirements in the context of current regulations, and under the saturated soils expected with an infiltration/retention system. Pervious concrete is a generic construction material available from local ready mix concrete suppliers and this presentation will focus on the appropriate, conservative design, specification and construction of this widely available construction material. Pervious concrete is not a proprietary product or system. Use of pervious concrete affords the designer great latitude in management of stormwater in a wide range of settings and conditions. This topic and presentation has been found useful to engineers, architects and owners both nationally and regionally. The attendee will leave the worklshop with a clear design methodology and technical information which will allow them to design and specify pervious concrete surfaces with a high degree of reliability and confidence. Local examples will be shown and discussed. Use of pervious concrete affords the designer great latitude in management of stormwater in a wide range of settings and conditions.
