Society for Ecological Restoration – New England Chapter

Report #2    April 2006

SER-NE is perking along.

We have sent out the first two issues of the New England Quarterly, prepared by SER-NE Communications and Membership Chair Sarah Watts. The Quarterly summarizes articles in current SERInternational publications related to our region. The New England region monthly Events Calendar, also prepared by Sarah, is catching on: people are sending in announcements specifically for our calendar. The 2nd Calendar was sent out April 1. Plans are underway for SER-NE’s 1st field foray/workshop, coordinated by treasurer Ingeborg Hegemann. We have established communications with local related organizations, and are cooperating in regional conferences by publicizing them, encouraging SER-NE member participation, and providing SERI literature. Vice-chair Mike Toohill and Sarah Watts are working on the nascent SER-NE website. Many new members have joined since the chapter was formed last Fall. Our 1st formal annual Board meeting was held Feb 28 via a 1 ˝ hr. teleconference organized by Mike Toohill. [An informal Board meeting was held Nov 2005 at the Amherst meeting of ASWM.]  The current Executive Committee will serve until Feb 2007.

    • Nominations (self-nominations welcome!) for NH, VT and CT State reps and additional student reps are invited.
    • We are seeking a coordinator and contributions for the New England Restoration Projects Compendium.

    The first Compendium topic:
We are compiling information on restoration projects  in  existing,  historic, or  proposed  Atlantic white cedar (Chamaecyparis thyoides) wetland forests. Project principals and contributors of relevant data will be appropriately recorded and credited. Please email the site name or location to Aimlee
aladerman@mbl.edu. We’ll send you a data form (responses optional!).

    • Attention all New England area conference organizers: submit meeting announcements to Sarah [swatts@neamaine.com] as early as possible so they’ll be included in our monthly events calendar.

Chapter Report #1 was published in the SERI winter 2005 Bulletin.
