SER Europe 2008 conference – Toward a Sustainable Future for European Ecosystems – Providing Restoration Guidelines for Natura 2000 Habitats and Species
The aim of the conference is to present the state of the art in ecological restoration in Europe and to bring together scientists, policy makers, practitioners and stakeholders. Through lectures, workshops, poster sessions and excursions the conference offers a unique opportunity for the exchange of knowledge, experiences and good practices in ecological restoration and nature conservation in the Natura 2000 framework. Keynote lectures covering different questions of the day and presented by leading authorities in the field have been announced

Thinking Beyond The S.T.O.R.M: A Workshop On The Storage And Treatment Of Runoff In Municipalities
The Westchester County Soil and Water Conservation District and Department of Planning are presenting a one-day "technical" workshop on ways to manage stormwater runoff to both protect and improve water quality and lessen the degree of flooding by controlling excessive runoff. This workshop will benefit government- and private-sector planners, engineers, landscape architects, environmental scientists, and other professional staff.

Ferns of Massachusetts (NEW!) at Wildcat Reservation Boxford, Mass.
Ferns are some of the most common herbaceous plants found in New England, yet their variety frequently makes them confusing. For example, it is critical that you know the difference between cinnamon and interrupted fern, yet even experienced experts often mistake one for the other. This half-day workshop will teach you about the numerous varieties of common and unusual ferns in Massachusetts. This new AMWS workshop has been requested for years, and is being taught by expert John Dick (Hancock Associates).

Invasive and Exotic Plant Eradication and Plant Community Restoration
Join John Munro for this exciting seminar! During the last 20 years Northeast North America (as well as regions around the globe) has experienced a huge change its regional flora. The introductions of hundreds of plant species from other continents and not native to North America, to infestation points around developed areas, has caused major loss of wild natural vegetation communities and wildlife habitats. Understanding of the problem and the magnitude of the problem is key to beginning to do something about it. The instructor also speaks to and instructs groups on the dynamics and eradication efforts directed toward exotic invasive plants and leads volunteer groups in eradication work in parks. Bioengineering and Biostructural Stabilization of Landscapes
Join John Munro for this exciting seminar! This seminar is designed to bring a combination of new techniques, traditional concepts (European), and new ideas and materials together for the serious ER site planner. The seminar will focus on design concepts that use selected plants native to the local area, use a spectrum of techniques (light to heavy duty), fit the design to the local ecology and conditions, and include both manufactured materials as well as materials available locally. The limitations to bioengineering will be presented as well as the need for repair-oriented protocols for monitoring completed work. Integrated Ecological Restoration of Rivers and Streams Including Design of Native Vegetation for Water Quality, in Floodplains, Riparian Zones and Waterways
Join John Munro for this exciting seminar! This seminar/workshop is designed to dig deeply into the concepts of waterway restoration from the broader ecological context and in the mode of Ecological Restoration. The focus on vegetation and native plant community issues as they relate to waterway corridors, rather than on strictly mechanistic and engineering oriented channel design, makes this seminar unusual and better suited to well-defined restoration as a part of the ecological system. Participants in this five day course will learn the vital relationships between the watershed land cover, vegetation, stormwater and the waterway, and how to design plans for the ecological restoration of the waterway corridor. While some bioengineering concepts will be included in the seminar contents, they are not the sole focus of the session. Problem areas or restored waterways will be subject of field trips. Estuaries and coasts are an important part of America's economy, history, and living culture. Restore America's Estuaries' 4th National Conference on Coastal and Estuarine Habitat Restoration is the only national conference focused on the goals and practices of coastal and estuarine habitat restoration. The five-day Conference will explore the state-of-the-art in all aspects and scales of restoration, and will be comprised of field sessions, plenary sessions, expert presentations, special evening events, workshops, a poster hall, and a Restoration Exposition.
