Do you love snapping pictures of nature? Want to share your photo with thousands of people and win cool prizes? Now you can by entering SER's photo contest!

 Who Should Enter:

Anyone (over 18)! The contest is open to submissions by members and non-members. Ecological restoration and nature enthusiasts from around the world are encouraged to enter.

How to Enter:

Simply complete the form below to submit your photo by midnight (US Eastern time) October 15th, 2017.

Prizes:

Five prizes will be awarded, one in each of the following categories:

  •  Restoration Before/After
  •  Restoration in Action
  •  Flora and Fauna
  •  Ecosystems
  •  Human Dimensions of Restoration

Grand Prize (1):  One grand prize winner will be awarded one year of SER membership, a one year subscription to our journal, Restoration Ecology, and a $100 cash prize.

Runner Up Prizes (4): The four other winners will receive one year of SER membership and a one year Restoration Ecology subscription. 

Bonus early bird showcase: Anyone who submits their photo by July 31st will be eligible for an opportunity to have their photo showcased at our upcoming world conference. The top early submissions will printed and displayed in the exhibition hall of the conference. (For early bird showcase photos, print quality must be for a minimum size of 12x18 inches at 300 dpi.)

Winners in each category will be announced to SER's member-base and social media following, with special recognition of the Grand Prize winner. All top photos will be featured and recognized on SER's website. 

Rules and Guidelines:

  • You must be over 18 to enter
  • There is no limit to the number of photos you may submit to the contest; however, an individual will not win more than one category.
  • Photos must be large, high resolution images in color or black and white. Minimum size is 8x10”, 300 dpi
  • Photos must fit within one of the five categories:
    • Restoration Before/After - Photos showing restoration sites before and after ecological restoration was completed. Note that a minimum of two photos should be submitted for this category.
    • Restoration in Action - Photos with e.g., restoration practitioners, researchers, or community members in the field conducting restoration; photos showing heavy equipment/earth-moving work underway; photos of fire restoration, dam removal, streambank reconstruction, etc.
    • Flora and Fauna - Photos of plants or wildlife in restored habitat. Emphasis will be given to sensitive/threatened/endangered flora and fauna (e.g. sensitive wildlife returning to restored habitat; restoration that prioritizes/features the restoration of sensitive plants/plant communities), but is not required. Please include IUCN red list status of species in caption.
    • Ecosystems - Photos capturing restoration success in one of the following ecosystems (Note: only one winner will be awarded for this overall category):
      • Desert/Arid lands
      • Freshwater (e.g. rivers/streams, lakes, freshwater wetlands)
      • Forests
      • Grasslands
      • Marine/Coastal (e.g. living shorelines, oyster reefs, estuaries, coastal wetlands, seagrass, coral reefs)
      • Tundra/Alpine
    • Human Dimensions of Restoration - Photos depicting the intersection of people and nature in the context of ecological restoration; how people/communities benefit from ecological restoration.

Note, some photos may fit in multiple categories. Please submit under the category that fits best.

By submitting your photograph, you are allowing the Society for Ecological Restoration to use the photograph on its website, email communications, Facebook, Twitter, print publications, and any other media now existing or later developed. Whenever used, a caption giving credit to the photographer will be included.

By entering the contest you agree to hold the Society for Ecological Restoration harmless from any issues, losses, or actions in relation to this photo contest. This would include any losses or issues related to third party claims of copyright infringement or violations of personal privacy.

The contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law.
