Today, the Society for Ecological Restoration and six other scientific societies, on behalf of over 200,000 collective scientist members, sent a letter to President Donald J. Trump and to congressional leadership in support of the Waters of the United States Clean Water Rule.

SER as well as the American Fisheries Society (AFS), American Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS), Ecological Society of America (ESA), Phycological Society of America (PSA), Society for Freshwater Science (SFS), and Society of Wetland Scientists (SWS) endorsed an amici curiae brief filed by wetland and aquatic scientists in support of the Clean Water Rule of the Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers. These societies support the brief, its use of the best available science to explain the need for the rule, and the underlying sound science supporting the rule itself.

In light of the executive order signed Feb. 28 by President Trump, directing the agencies to start reviewing and evaluating the Clean Water Rule, the scientific societies and letter signatories urge the president to support, and Congress to defend, the rule and protect our nation’s vital waters and wetlands.
