The Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) is pleased to launch its new publication International Standards for the Practice of Ecological Restoration at CBD COP 13. SER has been a leader in promoting ecological restoration worldwide and is dedicated to improving outcomes for biodiversity and human well-being through restoration. Both goals require continual improvement in the science and practice of ecological restoration. Our new publication provides updated and expanded guidance on the practice of ecological restoration, clarifies the breadth of ecological restoration and allied environmental repair activities, and benefits from the inclusion of ideas from a broader, international group of restoration scientists and practitioners.

The International Standards for the Practice of Ecological Restoration provides a model based on five key elements:

  1. Developing restoration practices based on appropriate local indigenous reference ecosystems.
  2. Working with communities at all levels of the restoration project.
  3. Setting clear targets, goals and objectives.
  4. Using sound science and practical knowledge to underpin each project.
  5. Creating the world-first five-star rating system to help practitioners and regulators keep track of a project’s progress over time.

The new publication will be available for immediate download at COP 13.

Please join us for the global launch of SER’s International Standards for the Practice of Ecological Restoration.
