Learn how native plant community restoration can be guided by existing natural inventories. (Rescheduled from 10/25/2016.)

This webinar will highlight resources that can aid in the identification and selection of native plant communities adapted to the ecological conditions of a restoration site. An example of how such resources were used to develop Iowa native plant community restoration planning tools will be discussed along with a cursory introduction to appropriate native plant material selection. Participants will learn:

  • About the importance of habitat diversity within restoration sites and its influence on adjacent landscapes.
  • About resources that can aid in the identification and selection of native plant communities adapted to the ecological conditions of a restoration site.
  • How to plan sculpted/stratified habitat restoration based on ecological conditions that vary across a restoration site to improve habitat establishment and diversity.
  • How the above-referenced resources and restoration planning techniques were used to develop Iowa native plant community restoration planning tools.
  • Briefly about appropriate native plant material selection and planting requirements.
