Revegetation Crew



Summer Employment (STEP – Student Temporary Employment Program)



Description of Duties:



The student employee plays an important role in implementing the park’s vegetation management field programs. Incumbents will work within the revegetation program in Grand Teton National Park and the John D. Rockefeller/Jr. Memorial Parkway. The job will require the safe/efficient/and sometimes independent operation and maintenance of a wide variety of natural resource field instruments/work tools/and vehicles. The revegetation program at Grand Teton National Park uses native/locally collected seed for all restoration projects. There are numerous ongoing/large-scale projects which will require large quantities of hand collected native seed.



Seed collection will account for 80-90% of the work duties. Seed collection will be performed outdoors at an elevation range of 6200-9200 feet/with temperatures ranging from 20-90 degrees during the summer months. Incumbents will be required to accurately report their activities/documenting species collected/plant community information/and collection hours. The job will require the ability to identify native grasses/forbs/and shrubs targeted for collection. Training will be provided on plant identification and seed collection techniques.



Other job duties may include monitoring of previously treated sites using prescribed methods/site rehabilitation and revegetation related word/exotic plant management control (mechanical and chemical treatments)/and other resource management related activities.



Seasonal field work/specifically seed collection/is generally conducted from mid-June through mid-September. However/actual begin and end dates may be adjusted to meet student schedules and program needs.

To be eligible for this type of position/you must:

• Be enrolled or have been accepted for enrollment at an accredited institution as a degree-seeking student.

• Have a cumulative GPA from the most recent semester/quarter that is at least a 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.

• Intend to return to school within 8 (eight) months of being hired for this position.

• Be at least 18 (eighteen) years old by the time that you enter on duty.



Position Information:

• Length of employment is flexible between June 2010 and October 2010/depending on your requirements for reporting to school and program needs.

• Pay is commensurate with education and experience/but should average between $13.41– $15.00 / hr./plus paid vacation and sick leave/as accrued.
